Global Health Elective in Lesotho
Clinical electives in general medicine and pediatrics are available at the Queen 'Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH), a new (2011) 400-bed public hospital with neonatal, pediatric, medical and surgical ICUs, nine operating theaters, a busy accident and emergency care unit, and a network of four community-based clinics. The hospital has extensive support services including radiology (with MRI and bone densitometer), clinical laboratories, physical and occupational therapy, a dental laboratory, orthopedic workshop, audiology (including newborn screening), social work, pharmacy, and an electronic medical record system. Average monthly inpatient admissions are 1,500-2,600 and monthly outpatient visits average 22,000-35,000. QMMH was created and is operated through a World Bank supported public-private partnership.
