Biography

Andrea Low, MD, PhD is an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health. She studied Marine Biology at the University of British Columbia and then received her MD from McGill University, and completed her Infectious Diseases medical specialization at New York University. As a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow, she received a PhD in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she focused on HIV transmission and reproductive health in female sex workers in Burkina Faso. Dr Low is currently the Lead Epidemiologist on the multi-country Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (PHIA), and the Project Director for the Lesotho Violence Against Children Survey (VACS). Her research interests include HIV acquisition in vulnerable populations and the heterogeneity of infection and risk, including among adolescents and young adults (AGYW), as well as common co-infections affecting people living with HIV. She is also currently working with PHIA data in analyses on the impact of climate change and drought on HIV and risk behaviors in southern Africa.
