USA: New York City, NYP, Discharge Medication Comprehension among Families with Limited English Proficiency

Dr. Banker will not be taking students for the Summer of 2024.

This project is focused on looking at medication errors in Spanish speaking families who have children that were recently discharged from the hospital with a new oral medication versus English speaking families. This project will be done at both NYP MSCH and NYP Queens to include a larger academic center and a smaller community site. The study team screens the inpatient lists for patients who will be discharged soon and have the primary treating team give them more information and get consent. The team then contacts the family within 96 hours of discharge and does a survey over the phone. Bilingual medical students can join our team to help with surveying families as our goal is to enroll 200-300 patients - half Spanish speaking and half English speaking.
